Fan Information

stevens john scblHello fans!

As the Teamline broadcaster for the 2009 SCBL Tournament host team, the Tennessee Tornado, it’s my pleasure to bring all six — or perhaps seven! — tournament games to you, from Johnson City, Tenn., to wherever you call home.

But why just listen to the games when you can be a part of the broadcast?  Here at scbl.wordpress.com, our interactive Gameday Forum gets you into the game like no other broadcast in the league.  Check out game previews and analysis in the Clubhouse before each game, and post questions or comments live during each game.

Fan interaction makes the overall Teamline experience better for everyone.  Fan anecdotes, questions and comments color the broadcast vividly, and in return I can bring you a more entertaining account of the game.  I look forward to hearing from every team’s fans throughout the tournament.  Though I won’t be able to read comments during Day 1 action as there’s no Internet connection at Anglin Field, I look forward to responding to comments during the Day 2 games at Cardinal Park, where I will be able to check comments for the rest of the tournament.

Thanks and enjoy the broadcasts!

Regards,

John Stevens

bat dividerVisiting Johnson City, Tenn., for the first time?  Here’s how to get to the ballparks:

Each ballpark is located along a different stretch of the same road.  Legion Street (where you’ll find Cardinal Park) eventually becomes Milligan Hwy. (the way to Anglin Field).  From I-26, take Exit 24 for University Parkway and Elizabethton.  You’ll want to head toward Elizabethton, so you’ll make a right at the light from the offramp.

This road turns into Elizabethton Hwy., but before it does, you’ll see a right exit for Milligan Hwy. and Legion Street.  Take the exit and follow the below instructions for each ballpark:

  • anglin fieldTo get to Anglin Field on Day 1, turn right at the stop sign and proceed down Milligan Hwy. about 2.6 miles.  You’ll come to a fork in the road split by a gas station, with signs telling you to bear left.  Do so and watch for the field on your right.  When you see the field through the trees, go beyond it and make the next right into Milligan College (the sign has an arch over it and there is a small pond at the campus entrance).  Proceed down the campus’s main road until you see the Gregory Center on your right.  Turn right and proceed down to the parking lot, where you’ll see the field through the trees.
  • cardinal park 2To get to Cardinal Park on Day 2, turn left at the stop sign and proceed up Legion Street about a half-mile.  You’ll pass over Elizabethton Hwy. through a four-way stop sign and eventually by a small community on the right.  Beyond that, you’ll see Cardinal Park on the right.  Be mindful to lock your doors to protect valuables, and park at your own risk for foul balls!  If needed, you can find additional parking by continuing on Legion Street to the stop light at State of Franklin Road.  Parking is available across the street from the Recreation building.

bat dividerLooking for food near Anglin Field and Cardinal Park?

  • Off Exit 24, there’s plenty in the Southside Shopping Center area, including Burger King, Arby’s and Long John Silver’s.  If you’re staying close and you’re craving pizza, there’s a Little Caesar’s on South Roan Street, and Fox’s Pizza Den on University Pkwy. delivers as well.  Papa John’s and Domino’s aren’t far either.
  • Take University Pkwy. down the hill into Johnson City for several other restaurants along State of Franklin Rd. and West Walnut Street, from Alley Kat sandwich shop to the Italian Pizza Pub to Ruby Tuesday.  Try a local favorite, Pal’s on State of Franklin Rd. across from East Tennessee State University, Knight’s Food & Sports next to campus, or settle for Wendy’s, Bojangles or Zaxby’s.
  • Close to Cardinal Park, there’s a Dairy Queen and a McDonald’s near I-26 Exit 23 where Legion Street becomes Market Street.  In downtown Johnson City, try Russo’s on Main and North Roan Streets for quality cajun cooking and a great selection of beer, wine and spirits.  Also, there’s a pretty good German restaurant, Freiberg’s, farther down Market Street.

Have a pleasant stay in Johnson City and enjoy the tournament!

    John:

Unfortunately I have missed all the tourney games broadcast thus far. Is the league or perhaps you, capable of posting the box scores of all the games? I feel like the guy in the Old Man and the Sea, reading about Joe DiMaggio three weeks late?

    Let’s go Copperheads,

    Thanks and Best,
