A well-rested Morganton team takes the momentum of a big Day 1 win into the nightcap of Day 2 against the tournament host Tennessee Tornado.
Between Tennessee and Morganton, the Tornado won out in the series, 4-2, starting out the season trading doubleheader splits on respective home fields. From there, Tennessee won a nine-inning game on each field and Morganton took the final meeting at Shuey Field. At Cardinal Park, Tennessee has won two of three games in 2009.

Kathy
Get it done Tyler! Wish we were sitting with the Scoby’s supporting our Valpo guys and cheering with all of the Tornado families!
Go get ‘em Big Matt!!
what’s the score?
Great job my Golden Eagle friend!!
Big John-It’s been a long time-almost a year to a day since the Tornado won their first championship and what an incredible run they had!!!! Amazing depth with the pitching staff and a team full of individuals who, on any given night, came through with clutch moments.
Max finished his senior at Dayton as the # 6 hitter in the A-10 conference hitting .375 and making second team all A-10. The Flyers finished in first during league play for the first time in “Dayton history, so that’s a pretty decent way to end your career, especially when the Flyers were picked to finish no higher than 6th in conference!
Lots of great memories among them the championship night in the fog there a year ago at Milligan has to rate as the most surrealistic evening I have ever spent, and there have certainly been some strange evenings…..Thought I’d check in and both Max and myself wish the Tornados the best luck getting back to the promised land. Sure sounds good hearing your voice at the helm once again……. Mike and Max Navalinski
score, please – I’m at a hotel computer without speakers!
Sorry — 9-6 Tornado in the 8th!
– John
My apologies … Andrew Jones hit a two-run home run for Tennessee to increase their lead from 7-6 to 9-6. Sean Albury comes on to pitch the ninth for the possible save.
Good to know that Brandon is OK. We are grandpa and grandma listening from South Dakota and have enjoyed following the Tornado this summer.
Wild Thing was not the LP. Check your stats.
Retraction is in order!
Thanks for pointing that mistake out. I got the quick nod from my scorekeeper who didn’t, just like I didn’t, look carefully and notice the “5+” I’d written down for Jordan Pace.
Pace did indeed give up the solo home run to Jones before being lifted, and you are indeed correct that Ricky Vaughn didn’t get the loss. I’ll check with my scorekeeper and make sure he didn’t tab that into Scorepad.
Thanks for the observation, and enjoy the games tonight!
Regards,
John
